Just as with any business, there is a history. Where it all started, how it started and how it became who they are today. Long before the first "Welcome to Cooper Music" ever chimed the ears of a piano buyer, the history of the Cooper Family began. For the next few months, I will share with you, every Friday a special blog, containing the history of the Cooper family and creation of Cooper Music. We hope that you enjoy reading as Cooper Music is brought to life with memories.
COOPER MUSIC: ATLANTA AND
THE FOURTH GENERATION
When the town of New Kensington PA was built, largely by the now vacated ALCOA, it was sadly, in time, only meant to be temporary. Consumed by the Rust Belt years of western Pa the town business was decaying and almost gone. Cooper Music, taken by the dynamic growth of Atlanta, reopened there in 1977. The beautiful store and memories of PA were left behind for the excitement of ATL!
To some people, a job is something that pays the bills. However, to Blake and Jolie the job is more, it’s their life. Blake, and sister Jolie Cooper are the fourth generation of Coopers to own and operate the 1906 establishment, Cooper Music, is one of America’s largest and most respected music retailers. It’s only logical that music would be more than a job for this generation. Blake, bass player and singer in numerous rock bands in his youth, began working at age ten when the family store was in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. At that time, Cooper Music sold virtually everything music-related. Blake, who became company president in 1992, recalled, “We did it all then. What ever was hot, guitars, organs, bongo drums, it was there. We offered every thing musical.” And so Blake, who recalls sitting in the boile
r room of the Cooper building in PA, cleaning horns upon their return from rent and Jolie, after schooling designed and painted store interiors in Atlanta. Not exactly glamorous work, they admit, but it showed them how to care for customers… and how owners must be ready to perform any job. That goes with the territory.
In 1906 Jonathan Cooper founded the business, known as Cooper Brothers Inc. A former coal mine carpenter, he utilized his woodworking skills to craft and sell pump organs. Then, year-by-year, new products (including pianos) and services (such as restoring them) were added. The growth of Cooper Music always had been evolutionary; creating a solid foundation that carried the company through good times and bad. Economic changes in the industrial north coupled with great business opportunities in the south brought the company to Atlanta.
Even today, that ability to change with the times… has served Cooper Music well. For instance, Blake Cooper attributes his company’s current success to a decision in the early 1990s to pull back from Atlanta mall stores of the 1970s and ’80s, and to place renewed emphasis on pianos and organs and teaching programs such as Music and Wellness.
Why the shift? Actually, the company always had done well with its piano business, Cooper explains, even during the Great Depression and World War II, when
new instruments were rare or nonexistent. “That was when our restoration business really began to grow,” he says. “Most people didn’t have the money for a new piano… even if they could have found one during the war. Restoring the piano you already had was the alternative."
The art of restoring superbly crafted, antique pianos still holds a special place at Cooper Music, now the Southeast’s largest piano restorer. “I love those old pianos,” says Cooper! ” They are unparalleled in detail and quality craftsmanship. It’s an incredible feeling to see those amazing instruments come back to life."
Blake Cooper, seeing how the business had changed, knew that a shift in product strategy was needed if Cooper Music was to grow. That’s when he consolidated the company’s operations, folding the mall stores into one 8800+ square-foot superstore with three showrooms, rental department and the Liberty Theatre concert hall. There are numerous studios for group and private music lessons. On the Cooper Music campus are branch Music and Wellness teaching studios and piano restoration shops.
“The main reason this century old company has survived has been our family’s willingness to
change,” says Cooper. “I guess it’s a family tradition that started with my grandfather John Cooper, who in the north, used to sell boats in the summer when the music business slowed down. We’ve always been able to tighten our belts when necessary.”
Today consumers can browse through a huge inventory of new, used, and restored pianos, as well as digital pianos and church organs. With about 30 brands on hand, Cooper Music is the exclusive dealer for displaying the largest selection of pianos and organs in the Southeast.
A shining star of Cooper Music’s game plan is the Cooper Music Rental Program, which Blake Cooper expanded shortly after taking the company helm. This program allows people to rent any piano they like and try it out at home, for a monthly fee as low as $25. “With the pace and changes in life style, we find people have increased the desire for life’s finer things…including pianos,” says Cooper. “This program makes that desire affordable. Research has proven the value of music in childhood brain development. The Cooper Rental Program is ideal for parents
who want to give their child an opportunity to play the piano before leaping into a major investment. Later, if a customer decides to buy the instrument, rental fees can be applied toward the purchase. There is no purchase obligation or time limits, he adds."

Last year, my 7 year old son suddenly developed a love for piano, because that our lives were
on stand still because he insisted on having one at home. I didn’t want to dismiss him because he may have stuck to it and may have ended up being something good for him. However, a piano is not something that you buy just because your child asks for it. A new piano couldn’t fit in my budget that month or that whole year for that matter.
My friend told me about renting one and with a little research on the internet I got to know that there are companies who actually rent out pianos. These seemed like a very lucrative option as for one I dint have money to buy a new one and secondly I wasn’t even sure how long he would have played before he moved on to wanting something else. In the event you are in the same position I was, or whether you want to try out a piano for yourself, there are few factors that stand to be considered when looking for a piano rental.
1. Rental period- You have to be clear on the length of time you need the piano, some company mainly lease of for 6 to 24 months. When you rent for a longer period you will also get better deals when it comes to the piano rental prices. You also have the option of renting it by the month, however take time to find out how long you are required to rent before you sign a contract.
2. Maintenance- Take time to ask know what happens in terms of maintain your piano rental. What happens of it breaks down while in your possession, who tunes it and who covers all the expenses. Some companies will handle all the maintenance services for you at a constant monthly fee or as an after sale/rent service.
3. Reputation- Take some time to find out about the company you plan to rent from, read ahead on their reviews and testimonials. This will give you info on the quality of services and the state of the piano itself.
4. Size and Condition – Rental piano may not be in the best state because in years they are moved from one home to the other. Look for a piano that is in good condition to assure that you don’t have to call the maintenance people over and over again. This can simply be done by having the piano fully accessed before it’s brought to you. Considering on the purpose of the piano and the size of your home, look at different sizes and get one that will suit your needs.
5. Prices- Piano rental prices differ from one company to the other; however the main
determinant for the set prices of any piano is the value and quality. Some companies will also make a free delivery to your home after you order. A beforehand research is however encouraged to find some of the best rates in your area.
6. Guarantee – Because of the uncertainty in quality, assure that you only rent from a company that fully guarantees their rental piano. A piano in good quality is easy to learn and practice on.
Renting a piano is also very easy and you can have yours delivered to your doorstep in one day. If you are renting for your child as I did, make sure that you take them to the store to test it out. This will save you from renting a piano that they won’t end up playing. You can also consult your piano teacher on the best piano rental for you. As in everything else to get the best piano rental deal, all you have to do is invest sometime in research before making a financial commitment.

Playing a piano is a skill that many young music oriented kids aspire to once master in their
lifestyle. Due to the unique bonding established during the training session and the quest to attaining that dreamt of perfection, I believe that any piano is just not the piano for anyone. There are specific brands and makes that will bring out the best in us by perfectly suiting our style hence bringing us closer and closer to perfection.
Since all pianos are not created equal, there are some characteristic features and functionalities that I believe one should consider before purchasing a piano. These are bound by;
- the type of music you play on it
- how often you will play it
- The outward appearance hence the contribution to the decor
The type of music you play on it
Different constructs to a piano play different roles to the sound quality they deliver. For instance, an exotic sound board made from aged hardwood will have excellent acoustics that amplified played notes to reach far into the edges of a huge hall. While this is a factor to consider for a piano for use in an opera or concerto, it might be unnecessary extra expenditure for a piece that will only be played in the living room.
In addition to determining the reach of the struck notes, I believe that designs that strengthen the type of music you play on a piano are paramount in choosing a piano that best suits you. for instance, if you will be playing tunes with snappy notes that need be quenched abruptly to attain their musical finesse, a piano with a ribbed or braced soundboard is exactly what I advise you to go for.
How often will the piano be used
Just like any other piece of art that is subjected to use, a piano is bound to deteriorate in quality as you use it. Though generally pianos are delicate constructions, the fact that the harps and the pedals will be subject to continues torture in the passion to attaining that perfect combination is something to determine when buying a piano.
Because pianos are not created equal, there will be a piano that can endure hours and hours of
continued play without the need for professional maintenance while others can’t simply take the strain. Settling for a piano robust enough for your case is one of the things that I believe are crucial in identifying a worthy piano deal.
The outward appearance hence the contribution to the decor
Pianos are more than just music instruments. Many homeowners buy pianos to complete the house décor. In cases where the piano comes as a decoration other than a musical instrument, I emphasize on its outward appearance. Going for an exotically finished piano capable of catching attention in your house will be a marvel to many.
Drawing from the fact that pianos are not created equal, I feel confident to say that there is the possibility of getting a piano that is both beautiful in the inside and on the outside. Striking a balance between these two for a piano that is bought for the sake of its appearance rather than its performance is a characteristic that to me is important in the making of a worth piano deal.
With so much to look for, it might be confusing to settle for the piano that will exactly suit you. This should however not trouble you since there always will be a design to meet your need no matter how diverse they might be. In my opinion, the search for a good piano should never be stopped on the pretext of being comfortable with a piano that was not in your dream. If possible, struggle to get that piece that you always dreamt of because it is somewhere out there.

When buying long-term assets, many factors that are put in mind to ensure the value for your
money is attained. Purchasing a piano creates a lifelong enjoyment and intellectual stimulation. It is therefore necessary to prepare so that you can get a piano that best suits your family needs
First you should establish your family’s musical and furniture needs since the piano will provide a complimentary décor to your living room. There must be space to accommodate it and avoid overcrowding. On the same note, the piano adds elegance, beauty and sophistication and is thus crucial that it plays well so that it can play its complementary role effectively.
Music addicts acknowledge the importance of buying a piano with a key touch and musical tone that you appreciate. To achieve this, visiting the local retail dealer would be a good start. This essentially enables you to obtain expert advice on the different types of piano available in the market. It is unanimously agreed that getting expert reviews before proceeding to make a purchase always works to the buyer’s advantage. Dealers with a large variety of pianos provide a number of useful options. All you need to do is simply sample and with the help of the sales person decide on what you want.
The wide range of choices available makes it possible for one to make necessary reviews concerning pricing and quality. It is easier to identify whether it is a new piano that you will go for simply purchase one that has already been used. The bottom line is that getting the instrument that is pocket friendly to buy and one that has keys responsive to your fingers is the bottom line of the whole review. It doesn’t really matter that the piano is a new one or used previously, one can get whatever design and cabinet they so desire by changing its finish. The good news is that it is now possible to acquire the piano you long for privately.
Another important factor that may be overlooked yet its importance cannot be over emphasized with piano reviews is the mode of purchasing. This implies to the person from whom the piano is being bought, which can either be a private dealer or public retailer. When getting a piano from a retailer one should note the following;
-ensure the piano has a manufacturer’s warranty, complimentary tuning and finish choices.
-Used pianos are usually re-conditioned and come with a dealers warranty too.
-trade policy should be availed by the dealer stating the full purchased price of the piano in case
you need a higher quality ne than what is being provided.
Purchasing a piano privately on the other hand is much more disclosed and looking at classified newspaper ads is a good start. This however does make reviews and considerations any less important but rather require an even closer examination because of the risks involved. The most likely scenario to occur when locating a piano privately is the likelihood of purchasing a non evaluated piano. This is because there is no registered technician to look at it. Apart from warranty risky, travel expenses should be factored in if you decide to go the private way. An obvious advantage is that the pianos will cost much lesser since the moving cost are entirely on the buyer. Furniture cabinetry and finishing may also not be as impressive as those obtained from retail dealers.
The pianos cost is basically the major determinant of all. Good quality pianos will cost a reasonable fortune and if your aim is lifetime enjoyment then it is worth making the investment for the utility is worth every bit. Not to be ignored also is the condition of the piano. Do not settle for anything less than the best when it comes to this. The piano life cycle depends on it.

When customers come into my store, I make it a point to let them know how passionate I am
about pianos. Back in the days when I was a teenager, I grew up playing a Baldwin upright. It was one of the best musical instruments that I have ever had the pleasure of playing. I told my parents to purchase an upright because I had found out at the time that a number of prominent public figures have played it, such as Stravinsky, Copland, and Truman. My parents and I took very good care of the upright and when my wife and I had our first son, I had decided that it was time to pass it down to him.
Baldwin Upright Pianos are Well-Known
The Baldwin upright is a well-known musical instrument because it can last more than a lifetime. Of course, there are many other reasons such as the tonal quality, the touch response, price and the variety of models. The company has manufactured an abundance of good quality pianos and even produced them in a number of countries. People from all over the world know the brand very well and have taken a liking to it. I think it is safe to say that it is one of the most utilized and recognizable brands in the world.
Features to Look for in Baldwin Upright Pianos
When you decide to look for a upright piano, it is important to ensure all the features are checked. Baldwin upright pianos are typically sturdy and they produce flawless sounds. I advise that you play one when you are shopping for a unit, because playing it on your own allows you to determine if the sound is up to the standard you are expecting.
The blending of various materials used to produce them is also a feature that numerous people love about Baldwin upright pianos. The casing is a noticeable feature and each casing is made from cherry, mahogany, or oak, whereby the keys are made of seasoned Sitka spruce. Seasoned Sitka spruce is known for emitting clear and long lasting sounds. It is no wonder it is frequently used to produce top quality piano keys.
Upright pianos come in a variety of vertical sizes, thus it will not be difficult to find one that
meets your individual artistic needs and your preferred home décor. Larger upright pianos tend to produce a deeper and more robust tonal quality. It is safe to say that they have the best acoustic quality. Due to this, a majority of pianists, dealers and piano students often compare them to baby grand pianos. A trick I found out from a long time friend is that if you want to enhance the sound even more, all you need to do is raise the lid. By raising the lid, it allows the sound and tone to bounce off from one wall to the next.
What to Consider when Purchasing an Upright
It is important to consider a few essential things before you decide to buy a Baldwin upright. Even though it is not the main concern, you need to make sure that there is enough space in your house to place the upright piano. If style is the most important factor, then you need to shop around as much as you can in order to find one that suits your taste and ideal home furnishings. It is sensible to put aside a budget for the upright unit, so that you do not trail off and buy one that may cost you money that you cannot really afford.
Which are your favorite Baldwin upright pianos?

Are you considering taking up jazz piano lessons Atlanta has to offer? Atlanta has taken jazz to
the next level with different experienced and skilled individuals offering his or her teaching services to the public. There is so much that one can look forward to when it comes to jazz lessons, performances and concerts. I cannot say that I know everything about jazz, but one thing that I know for sure is that classical musicians or students cannot necessarily play jazz music. However, with the best teacher on your side and the right goals, you can certainly become an above average jazz piano player.
Set Your Goals
As with learning any other music genre or musical instrument, you need to set yourself specific goals. You definitely want to make progress and not remain exactly the same as you are today, don’t you? If that is the case, then you need to list the things that you want to change within yourself. Think about what you want to accomplish as a music student or perhaps, a musician.
If you do not change your mindset right now, you will end up being the same person with the same abilities in years to come. Start right now and decide what you want to achieve with the piano lessons Atlanta has to offer. Here are some things you should consider when it comes to learning jazz:
- What abilities do you want to grasp?
For instance, do you want to read music more accurately? Do you want to articulate or express yourself through music more specifically? Do you want to improve your phrasing, tone and touch?
- What do you care about when it comes to taking lessons?
A number of people do not have much time available to attend music lessons. They will try their best to allocate about 30 minutes per day or maybe, 30 minutes every two or three days. To tell you the truth, 30 minutes for every two or three days are not going to be enough, but it will have to do if you have a busy lifestyle. Other things you might want to consider under this category are the pieces that you might want to play and perfectionism.
- How do you want to approach jazz piano or its lessons?
Are you interested in learning songs that you like, as a distraction? Do you want to move forward in the exam system, or are you looking to train yourself in becoming a serious jazz musician?
I recommend that you write your goals in one or two sentences on a piece of paper. Then, keep it somewhere safe, so that you can go through it whenever you want to. In order to achieve your goals, I advise that you talk to your jazz piano teacher about your goals. Ensure that his or her expertise lines up with all your goals. Ted Howe from Atlanta is a great piano teacher that is able to help those who want to learn jazz piano lessons Atlanta has to offer.
Ted and I have been friends for a very long time and I know he is the right person to talk to if you are considering jazz lessons. As with any piano teachers, Ted has his own way of teaching and he certainly has his own sets of internal curriculums. Therefore, if you do not share your goals, or how you would like to improve yourself in jazz lessons, you are definitely wasting your time and money.
Do you think it is important to have a good relationship with your piano teacher?

Just as with any business, there is a history. Where it all started, how it started and how it became who they are today. Long before the first "Welcome to Cooper Music" ever chimed the ears of a piano buyer, the history of the Cooper Family began. For the next few months, I will share with you, every Friday a special blog, containing the history of the Cooper family and creation of Cooper Music. We hope that you enjoy reading as Cooper Music is brought to life with memories.
WILL COOPER, IN GOOD HEALTH, THEN TENDERED A TRADE FOR OLD DEBTS TO BANKER SMITH
The Cooper family now faced concern for the health of their older brother. Will, facing a reduced
role in the business, suffered depression and obesity. The decline in the sale of expensive pianos and phonographs eliminated his starring role in the Cooper Brothers lineup. John’s emerging leadership did not result in sibling dessention or replace concerns for Will’s health.
John made arrangements to send Will to a private nursing home named San Rosario in Cambridge Springs PA. Catholic Sisters from the Erie PA diocese operated the sanitarium. Brother Will, an avowed protestant Christidelphian teacher and lay preacher was too weak to resist his brother’s orders. John had carefully managed the company finances to enable the extended confinement and to also care for Will’s family while he was away. The care and supervision of his new life style, by the Sisters, substantially restored his health. Will lost weight and more importantly recovered his outlook on life. After many weeks he returned home to a new assignment from brother John.
John had never forgotten the financial blows from the bankers and the Depression years. He was determined to erase that financial disaster from the records. Their radio station, WKPA, had recovered ownership of the building but there remained the large unpaid Cooper Music notes, held by the Bank, left over from Depression years. When Will returned from San Rosario Nursing Home John saw, in brother, Will, a plan.
Will had been away for many weeks. John looked at Will standing there in a now diminutive frame. John remarked, Will’s spirits were good but his now oversized clothing hung on him like a garden scarecrow. The town knew of Will’s illness and extended confinement. Friends and family were shocked by his new appearance.
The plan. John said to his brother, “The business has set aside an amount of cash to make an offer to settle the notes held at the Logan Trust Bank." Will looking, at the cash, replied, “A good sum of cash but this isn’t nearly enough to pay off the notes." . John said, “Right, but there is the old Community Savings stock we could throw in on the deal. There has been talk around town that the Mellon Bank is interested in Logan Bank. Since Logan Bank acquired Community we have been stonewalled by Logan owners from obtaining anything for Community stock. Right? Now Will, you know nobody loves bank stock more than a banker, especially now, when banker Burns Smith is hoping for a merger with the Mellon Bank .”
Will agreed, with a forlorn satchel, stuffed with cash and stock, and his equally forlorn appearance, trudged up 5th Ave to the Bank. Will walked in the bank amid looks of shock and sympathy.
“Hello Will, welcome back." said old bank collector Burns Smith, through his Marsh-Wheeling stogie. “Heard you weren’t feeling well? You appear to have had a difficult time. What can we do for you?"
Will spoke, “Thank you for your interest. It hasn’t been an easy time. Now, I am putting my affairs in order, I am here to settle old debts."
Burn Smith, taken back, assuming the worst for Will Cooper, must have thought Will’s time had come. Smith was reacting as brother John had anticipated. The two sat silently across the desk from each other. Will opened the worn case. Will, stacking up the cash and spreading stock certificates, from his satchel, continued.
“I have here a sum of cash and these Community Bank Stock Certificates, in offer of final settlement of all Cooper Brother’s debts."
The Banker Smith, in a practiced calm, scanned the pile of cash. However, he held a lustful gaze on the artfully engrave stock certificates. In a condescending, smoke filled tone, said to Will, “Will, you are making an offer, in your time of concern, that will be timely considered by the Bank." Quickly adding, ”Are these all you have of your Community Bank Stock Certificates?"
“Yes." said Will, gaining confidence in the progress of the negotiation, “Can we exchange
all, cash and stock, for the Cooper Music notes, now? "
With that, the Banker Smith called and ordered all the Cooper Music notes to be retrieved from the vault. When they returned Will quietly inventoried the notes upon the desk and spoke,
“Where are the personal notes due from my father Johnathon, brother John and myself, they should be included . May we have them? "
“Done” said Burns Smith, impatiently, concluding silently to himself, “A good days work, because Will Cooper might die." After returning from the vault with the remaining notes he picked up the cash and Stock Certificates and dismissed Will from the brief conversation. “Good after noon. We hope you get better."
Will Cooper walked back to the 810 Fifth Ave. store with a lighter step, bringing great news for the family. Out of debt! After ten years of determined struggle the Depression was over for Cooper Music. From 1929, “Brother Can You Spare A Dime”, to 1940, “Happy Days Are Here Again”!
A radio address in 1938, Roosevelt reminded the American people that: Democracy has disappeared in several other great nations, not because the people of those nations disliked democracy, but because they had grown tired of unemployment and insecurity, of seeing their children hungry while they sat helpless in the face of government confusion and government weakness through lack of leadership.... Finally, in desperation, they chose to sacrifice liberty in the hope of getting something to eat. We in America know that our democratic institutions can be preserved and made to work. Cooper Music always felt that the company could be preserved and made to greatness.

While finding pianos for sale online can be very convenient and easy to use, it's very hard to see which pianos are being sold at a bargain price while others should be passed up because they might be broken or need major repairs. It is best to do piano shopping offline, where you are able to take a good look at the piano, test out its sound, and also decide if it's going to fit in your house!
One of the best places to find a piano for sale is going to be, of course, a designated piano retailer that has all of the right professionals and gear to make sure they only provide the best for their customers. Our own sales associates are music professionals who have a natural love for everything pianos

A majority of piano owners do not realize how important it is to make sure their musical
instruments are properly repaired and tuned as the years go by. To ensure that your piano performs at its best, you need regular piano tuning and general maintenance. People who are working around a tight budget will normally buy used pianos, given that buying a new unit entails a bigger investment. In this case, Piano Repair is considered necessary, because older or used pianos tend to have severe damages if previous owners did not take care of them.
Average Cost of Piano Repairing and Tuning
On average, the cost of standard piano tunings is around $100 to $200, whereby common Piano Repair can cost between $750 and $2,500 depending on what needs to be repaired. Even though the amount can increase, it is still affordable even for those who are on a limited budget. Every time a client asks about piano tuning or repairing, I always advise him or her to hire a highly trained and qualified technician. It will be counterproductive to hire your next-door neighbor even if he plays the piano brilliantly, because he does not have the right tools and expertise. Therefore, he might ruin your piano instead of fixing it and that risk should not be taken.
Hire a Piano Technician as Soon as Possible
As soon as you hear something is not right with your piano, I advise you to hire the professional services a technician instantaneously. If you fail to get it repaired immediately, the condition of your piano will worsen. A qualified technician can repair it to ensure it emits the sounds it should and by taking proper care of your musical instrument, it can last a lifetime. A large number of piano owners insist that their pianos get retuned at least twice a year, so that they are always in top condition. Given that most pianos are passed down from one generation to the next, it is essential to get them retuned frequently.
Hire an Affordable, but Highly Experienced Piano Technician
In view of the fact that normal piano repair is definitely important, it should be carried out by a professional and it should be done at the very least once a year. Although you may have learned a number of things about fine-tuning a piano, you should avoid repairing it yourself. I cannot say enough concerning the importance of hiring an expert to tune and repair your musical instrument. To hire a professional means that he is able to find other things that might be wrong with your unit, which anyone who is not properly trained will never be able to point out.
In order to find affordable piano technicians, you can begin by asking local piano dealers or friends for a few reliable references. Otherwise, you can search the Internet for reputable technicians in your neighborhood. My advice is that you hire one who has at least five years of experience in the fine-tuning and repairing of pianos. One of the best things about using the Internet is that you can compare prices of various technicians, thus making it easier to make a final decision. However, keep in mind that cheaper does not necessarily means the best. Always check the company’s background meticulously before you hire them.
Time Spent on Tuning and Repairing Pianos
Typically, it takes about one to three hours to tune a piano and anything less means the technician is not doing a great job. Suitable and specialist Piano Repair will take longer depending on the severity of the musical instrument’s general condition.
Would you hire a technician simply because his fees are below average?

I have been passionate about pianos for many, many years. As an experienced piano dealer
and a pianist, I have seen multiple times how purchasing a quality piano for sale can be an overwhelming and exigent task for scores of people. I can empathize as to how difficult it can be at times, so I decided to write a few guidelines on what one should look for when purchasing a piano. By following these guidelines, you will end up with a good quality instrument that can last a lifetime.
What You Pay is What You Get
Never ever purchase a musical instrument simply because it is cheap. Without an accurate assessment, you may get away with a cheap piano, but in the end, you may have to spend more money than you anticipated in piano repair. I came across a large number of people who experienced such circumstances and they ended up giving up on their eagerness and pleasure toward playing the musical instrument, only because they made a poor judgment call.
If this is your first time purchasing a piano for sale, you should definitely see it as a major acquisition that entails careful deliberation. As with any huge purchases, you end up with what you pay for, so if you are looking to purchase an original piano that works well and is long lasting, you should expect to pay anything from $4,000 to $5,500 for an entry level studio or console piano.
If you want an entry-level grand piano, then be prepared to pay between $10,000 and $14,000. High-end brands such as Steinway, Baldwin or Bosendorfer will certainly cost a lot more, but the prices mentioned above give you a great idea as to what you will acquire with that amount of money. Pianos that cost less than $4,000 will not measure up to your expectations, certainly not over time.
Blueprint of a Piano
In this day and time, pianos are still fundamentally an old world technology, which means the durability, playability and tonal quality of a piano starts with its materials, design and the artisanship in putting it together. In terms of the exterior, any piano can appear the same. However, a large number of intricacies that go into building one can affect the way it plays and the sound it emits. All the intricacies include action design, scaling, rim or back of the musical instrument, the plate, the pin block and soundboard.
When buying a piano for sale, I always advise my customers to pick the right design for the
kind of use they intend for their pianos. If you have the means and space, a grand piano is an ideal buy because it has a superior design over an upright piano. Furthermore, the sound and action response is simply better.
Nevertheless, if you do not have a large space for it and you do not want to overspend on a grand piano, you should consider buying a studio or a full size upright piano. The console is a better choice for beginners or intermediate players. On the other hand, if you are looking for one that can produce sonorous sound, then the full or studio upright is one that you should take into consideration. The spinet is not ideal at all because the sound is not as powerful as any other pianos that are available out there.
Buying a Piano – The Quality of the Musical Instrument
The next main component of pianos is the quality of the materials used to create them. Pianos are mainly made of wood, while the rest of them consist of metals (normally cast and iron frames) and felts. The type and quality of wood utilized in all the various parts of the pianos can make a huge difference in the way that they play and sound.
What was your experience when buying a piano for sale?
